Continued patient enrollment growth requires program enhancements to meet increased demand
(Albuquerque) – New Mexico’s Medical Cannabis Program ended January 2018 with 47,840 enrolled patients according to the New Mexico Department of Health report, a 49 percent increase over the same month in 2017. An additional 1,195 patients were added in January 2018 alone, on top of the record gain of 17,599 patients in 2017, confirming the unrelenting need of medical cannabis for tens of thousands of New Mexicans.
The program is expected to break 60,000 enrollees by year end.
“The new year began with decision-makers at local, state and national levels deliberating the continued integration of cannabis in their communities,” said Duke Rodriguez, CEO and President of Ultra Health®. “For New Mexico, rapid cannabis expansion is the new normal, demanding solutions that support increased product availability, improved quality and lower prices of medical cannabis. The last thing we want to do is force patients back into the black market.”
As the program matures, higher levels of demand are being seen for more sophisticated products, such as concentrates and Ultra Health’s own pharmaceutical grade medicinal cannabis offerings. These sophisticated medicines require more plant material, which connotes a growing shortage of available medicine in the aggregate New Mexico market.
Ultra Health continues to see increased demand for its pharmaceutical-grade, smokeless medicinal cannabis products. The medicines are a safer alternative to cannabis use by eliminating the potential health risk factors associated with smoking. Theses products are created using the whole plant extract which provides for an enhanced therapeutic effect by utilizing all cannabinoids found within the plant rather than only tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD).
